Often people complain about the lack of non mall related things to do in the day time in and around Johannesburg and I often shake my head.
So I have made it my personal mission to prove to the world- or my friends- that there are some amazing things to do in this city for all types of personalities.
I am an adrenalin junkie and so for me a fun day out is being suspended in the air waiting for a fall or being an the total mercy of earthly elements.
I have bungee jumped before and I would do it over and over- but I felt it was time to try out something new.
First up was SCAD free falling in the middle of the Orlando Towers in Soweto, South of Johannesburg.
There was something so liberating about driving 20 minutes out of central Jo’burg, getting harnessed, climbing up pole-like stairs and into the cooling towers.
Once I got onto a bridge inside the tower, I was welcomed by a facilitator who was perched on a lift like thing with a hollow centre.
He then told me the rules, harnessed me onto a rope into the centre and we were lifted.
Once we were high enough, I was made to sit in the hollow centre- only held by the harness.
And then. 3…2…1… The harnessed is released and I was on my way down the world’s highest SCAD freefall.
Falling in the centre of a tower was probably one of the most frightening and awesome experiences I have encountered.
I reached the bottom trampoline-like surface a changed person. Okay, maybe that is a little dramatic but it was incredibly liberating.
You have to try it out at least once in your life time! For more information go to www.orlandotowers.co.za
I was hundreds of meters in the sky, floating alongside the Magaliesburg mountain range with absolutely no control. I was forced to relinquish my controlling personality and depend totally on the wind and on fire.
I had an amazing experience on Bill Harrops Original Balloon Safari out in Magaliesburg and from the moment we arrived everything was completely unforgettable.
Here is my vlog on my morning spent hot air ballooning.

I went to the Acrobranch in Centurion which is great for group outings and team building shindigs.
Having done some crazy heights in KwaZulu-Natal, the Acrobranch zip-line didn’t scare me.
But it was still exciting to climb up the branches and then take a leap of faith. Admittedly, I screamed louder than my six year old nephew. But, what is the fun in it if I can’t scream my lungs out, right?
